Lecture - St Luke as an Artist in the 15th-Century Netherlands (2016)

The Bowes Museum, 7 December 2016

Dr Jeanne Nuechterlein (University of York) gave a lecture at The Bowes Museum on Saturday 7 December 2016, entitled 'St Luke as an Artist in the 15th-Century Netherlands'.  The lecture was part of the museum’s ‘Saved for the Nation!’ day of free workshops and events to celebrate their acquisition of St Luke Drawing the Virgin and Child by Dieric Bouts the Elder (c.1415-1475).

As well as Dr Nuechterlein’s lecture, the day included Gallery talks with Dr Howard Coutts (Keeper of Ceramics) and Bernadette Petti (Assistant Curator of Fine Art); a joint lecture 'The Study and Conservation of Early Netherlandish painting and Dieric Bouts' by Rachel Billinge and Britta New, conservators at the National Gallery, London; and workshops by artist Vicky Holbrough.
