Interactive Digital Catalogue - William Etty: Art and Controversy (2011)

To accompany the York Art Gallery exhibition William Etty: Art and Controversy (2011-2012), an interactive digital catalogue was published on the Department of History of Art's Research Portal. Developed by the Department and the Gallery, this online presence means that the exhibition continues to be accessible to all.

Visitors gain insight into Etty, his work, and the polarised contemporary opinions of his admirers and critics, by engaging directly with his artwork on a virtual tour of the exhibition as it was displayed at York Art Gallery. The interactive displays include the page-turning of two of Etty’s sketchbooks and recordings by York History of Art students, discussing individual paintings.
A printable Etty Walk, originally a leaflet produced by the exhibition's curators Dr Sarah Burnage (University of York) and Laura Turner (York Art gallery), draws people away from their screens out into the city of York.
